As a Black woman, linguist, and educator, I center anti-racists stances in my work and life. I believe that explorations of the linguistic construction of ethnicity, race, class, gender, and all of the other social categories that are foisted upon individuals is the central to an understanding  of the structure of modern society. Further, I believe in order to create a more just and equitable world, it is necessary to engage in public facing, social justice oriented work that benefits marginalized communities while centering their voices, experiences, and interpretations of the world. These beliefs are taken up in my research methodologies, which privilege participant testimonios and critical discourse analyses. I believe we should #CITEBLACKWOMEN and keep their teachings centered in our work towards social justice. In addition to my research praxis, these beliefs are also taken up in my work as a mentor for BIPOC high school and undergraduate students. Further, they are taken up in my continued work with non-profit organizations and community organizations dedicated to creating more equitable education opportunities for BIPOC students. I urge everyone to continue reading and live in a constant state of learning. It is all we can do to ensure a better world for all.
